What is the Pride Flag

The rainbow pride flag is a flag used to represent members of the LGBTQ+ community. It was originally designed in 1978 through the work of several different activists and originally featured eight colors, but since 1979, a more popular design features six. The colors each represent one aspect that is important to LGBTQ+ life and culture. In order, from red to purple, the colors represent life, healing, light, nature, harmony, and spirit. In 2018, a new flag called the Progress Flag was introduced, which includes additional black, brown, light blue, pink, and white stripes. These represent diversity and transgender pride within the LGBTQ+ community. LGBTQ+ people and allies use both versions of the Pride flag to show their pride and support for the community.
